iQLANDIA Science Centre

Hands-on science, a planetarium and a talking robot

iQLANDIA is the reason many Czech families come to Liberec. Opened in 2014 in a purpose-built block near the Babylon centre, it is a science centre in the fullest sense: several floors of experiments you operate yourself, a planetarium, laboratories and live shows with fire, electricity and liquid nitrogen.

It grew out of iQPARK, a smaller hands-on centre inside Babylon that still operates and suits younger children. Between them they can easily fill a day — and neither cares what the weather is doing.

What to see and do: iQLANDIA Science Centre

Work through the exhibitions

Themed floors cover the human body, the elements — water, fire, air — geology, the cosmos and modern technology, with hundreds of exhibits to push, pull and test. Explanations are given in Czech, English and German.

Planetarium

A digital planetarium shows films and sky tours on its dome. Sessions are timed and have limited seats, so pick your show when you arrive.

Science shows

Staff run demonstrations through the day. They are in Czech, but explosions and lightning need little translation.

Meet the robot

A humanoid robot that talks and gestures has been one of the centre’s mascots since opening.

iQPARK for smaller children

Next door in the Babylon centre, iQPARK offers simpler, play-based exhibits aimed at pre-school and younger school children. Ask about a combined ticket.

How to get to iQLANDIA Science Centre

  • iQLANDIA is on Nitranská street, about ten minutes’ walk downhill from the Fügnerova tram interchange and about the same from the bus and railway stations.
  • Paid parking is available at the centre and at Babylon next door.
  • From Prague, the bus to Liberec makes it a realistic day trip: see getting here.

Insider tips

  • Allow at least three to four hours; five with the planetarium and a show.
  • Rainy weekends and school holidays are the busiest times. Arrive at opening or after 2 pm.
  • There is a café inside, so you do not need to leave for lunch.
  • Tickets are sold at the desk and on the centre’s website, not through GetYourGuide.
